Deaf, Dumb and Blind

Soundlessly my voice screamed down the years
Wanting so much to be heard, for you to
Listen to my story, to understand me, Why
I stand outside the fire, the circle of
Life, a life for me filled with pain and
Memories, many too much for a rational
Mind to understand or comprehend.

Soundlessly I told my story a million times,
In rhyme or prose, but there was no light, you
Could not see. I wrote in darkness, my eyes
Blinded, my soul tormented, I listened for your
Footsteps, for the telephone to ring, the door
To knock, but I had forgotten I was deaf too.
Deaf, dumb and blind is how I had become.

What remained was that extra special sense, Empathy.
What I could not have for myself I wanted for others.
A burden shared, a pain eased, a shoulder to cry on.
Just someone to be there, someone to understand.
To let them just be themselves, to be free.
Now my soundless voice has found a way for my blind
Eyes to see and my deaf ears to hear. Help me too.

  1. You are now beginning to see, hear and speak, using your voice to be heard, even if through typing away on computer keys.

I am listening. I am seeing. I am hearing what happened. You are being heard! Your courage is amazing!
